What is a denture?

Dentures (commonly known as false teeth) are used to replace missing or lost teeth, allowing patients to eat, speak, and function as they normally would. While dentures are a general dental treatment, they also offer clear cosmetic benefits, restoring the appearance of a full, natural-looking smile.

Without dentures, vital support to the cheeks, lips, and facial muscles can be lost, which may cause the face to sag and appear older.

Many people worry that dentures will be noticeable, but modern acrylic dentures are more natural-looking and comfortable than ever before, making them difficult to distinguish from natural teeth.

We offer two types of dentures:

  • Partial dentures – designed to replace one or more missing teeth and may be secured to your natural teeth

How Long Should Dentures Be Worn Each Day?

Our dental team here at Rosyth Dental care may ask you to wear your dentures most of the time for the first few days, including when you sleep. Once your mouth adjusts to having dentures we may ask you to remove them whilst you sleep.

Doing so will relieve your gums and will help keep your mouth healthy. To stop your dentures from warping, you will need to keep your dentures in a glass of water.

How Long Do Dentures Usually Last?

During your first visit, we will provide you with clear guidance on how to care for your new dentures. With proper care, your dentures can last many years. It’s still important to attend regular follow-up appointments at Rosyth Dental Care, as dentures may need to be relined or, in some cases, remade over time.A poorly fitting denture can become uncomfortable and may affect your ability to eat and speak, which is why ongoing care and adjustments are essential.

Same-Day Dentures in Rosyth

Under normal circumstances, we can fit immediate stunning and natural looking dentures the same day that your teeth are removed. The benefit of having an immediate brace is that you do not need to be without teeth whilst your gums are healing.

Our dental team will need to take measurements and impressions of your mouth, so you will need to visit our practice beforehand. Your bone and gums are likely to shrink during the following six months after having teeth removed, so you’ll be asked to make visits if your dentures need adjusting or replacing.

Immediate dentures may not be suitable for everyone and you may be asked to wait until your gums heal, but we will assess this during your consultation.
